The original Heiltsuk Alphabet Chart was developed by the Heiltsuk Cultural Education Centre in 1986, with text by Dr. John Rath and illustrations by Shirl Hall.

In June 2017, with support from the Remote Community Based Learning Fund, UBC students worked in collaboration with Heiltsuk speakers—both Elders and youth—to re-record the original audio files and make the Alphabet Chart available as an interactive, digital learning tool.
